The worldwide high-brightness LED market grew from $11.3 billion in 2010 to $12.5 billion in 2011, a growth rate of 9.8%. Ten companies accounted for more than 68% of the LED market. Strategies Unlimited arrived at these figures after analyzing market demand as well as the supply-side activity of more than 54 LED component suppliers.

| HB-LEDs saw a precipitous fall in prices in 2011 which helped reduce the price LED lamps and luminaires. The growth in lighting applications could not compensate the slow growth in LED TV applications, but the adoption of HB LED in lighting offers a growth strategy for HB LED suppliers. |
Strategies Unlimited Forecasts LED Revenue to Peak at $16.2B in 2014. Revenues for high-brightness LEDs grew by a remarkable 108% to $11.2 billion in 2010, according to a new market report by the leading firm following the LED market, Strategies Unlimited. The growth was propelled by applications in TV backlight units, but expanding supply and a slowdown in overall TV demand in 2011 led to a drastic drop in LED prices, leading to a revised estimate of $12.3 billion in LED revenues for 2011.
In 2010, more than 50% of the global LED packages were produced in China and players included various package companies that were funded by Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the U.S., and others.
The LED lighting market (packaged chips) is forecasted to grow to $1.65 billion by 2012 making this one of the fastest growing segments in the LED industry. SSL has the potential to be the next generation lighting technology and the LED lighting fixture industry is an emerging market application for packaged HB-LEDs.
